At the next restart LORE will allow players to add an extra character slot if all their characters are Specialists. (ie if you have 1 specialist character, you can add a second character to the account. If you have 2 specialist characters, you can add a third character etc, up to 5. All characters will of course be on the same account and share the same bankbox. There will be an opportunity for all those players with multiple accounts to combine all their charactes onto one account. Extra characters will be able to extend their stats beyond 160. It won't be easy :) There will be a forum post on it tomorrow. Look for the details.

Very soon we are going to announce a big change in the number of characters we can play. About a month ago we started thinking about why so many people requested second accounts. Some would do it openly, but many players have applied for and received new accounts by claiming they were new players. Needless to say we don't like being deceived. But it made us think- why do people go to the trouble of lying to us in order to get another character? We know of quite a few. It seems there is a big need to try new things and UO normally provides that by allowing players to create up to 5 characters. But right from day 1 we have always insisted on just 1 character claiming that because 1 character can learn and do everything (because we are not a class based shard), players don't need another character. It seems that is not the entire reason. Our solution will be to let players earn new character slots on their one and only account. The reason we are delaying the introduction of this is because we need to decide on policies of how to deal with people with second accounts, and also figure out the housing points situation. Stay tuned. But I can tell you it will be better if you confessed to your covert second accounts right now.

Tara infiltrated Seth's slave camp where dozens of prisoners were being held captive. After secreting a message out to the land's warriors, we met and followed the trail to the Nomads, Nemedians, and the Vampires. Although Seth escaped, his slave dungeon was cleaned out and the prisoners taken home. We wait for Seth to declare his next move.

Oops. I forgot to post that we were only down for 2 hours! Maintenance mode was so that staff could edit the items in the game to match the new statics files. We are all running hunky and dorey again.

|
The shard is back up with the new map changes, but we are still in maintenance mode - meaning only staff can logon. Due to some mistakes in the patch file, all players should make sure they have the correct patch file SQV4Map2updateV1pf.zip. Check that's the file you have and download it again if not. See the forum announcement for more details including the password. If you run the wrong patch your client will crash when you try to open a treasuremap. Sorry about that.

You cannot run it before then as it is password protected. * Find the announcment in the Announcements forum. * Find the download on our Files and Patches web page. This update fixes many map errors, adds new housing, and makes some other map changes for you to find. |

If you wander down to the end of the hall in Gateway you will notice a new doorway. Go through the door and you will see a short corridor with a warning painted in blood on the floor. Keep going and you will end up in Gardenworld. Despite the peaceful sounding name, this is an extreme danger world where you will not survive unless you are with others and some of them are healers. Nothing that moves in that world is an easy kill. Beware. There is one only rez fountain.

|
There is plenty of time left to show your interest for the event. More Details at the URL below: Forum Link here In other news: Be careful walking the mainland, reports are coming in of attacks by shades of drow, as if drow themselves weren't bad enough!. They can hit quite hard, so be cautious if you encounter them. Barbarians have also been sighted gathering intelligence. Be wary of any approaching you. Lose tongues may give them a foothold!.

The review of the housing policy has been completed and the changes published on our forums in the Announcements forum. The essential information is: If a player has not played for a minimum of 5 hours over the previous 2 calendar months, then their house will be cleared out and sold/raffled. This will take effect from the start of April. The only houses that will not be effected are where the owner has notified us that they will not be able to play for a while.

On Tuesday morning 6am server time, (Central Standard Time USA) the shard will be down for approximately 30 minutes while I upload a new pol core and the combat changes. This is the timezone for the server so you can relate it to your timezone: http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_US-AL.aspx EDIT Due to daylight saving taking effect in the USA, this will be delayed to 6am CST.

It has become apparent that we have a severe shortage of housing. Again. We are therefore once again forced to review our housing policy. The idea is that only regular active players will be able to keep a house. Logging on for a few minutes per month is not going to be enough. We are looking for a steady stream of houses coming on and off the market each month to satisfy the demand by new players. We want players to be playing the game, not just logging on for a few minutes per month to hold their house.

Thanks to all those who attended, and a big thankyou to all those who ran and helped run the event. The winners of the competitions are as follows: Crocodile Wrestling: Sumal, the one and only winner. Many attempted and lost their lives to the evil beast. Herding: Lawrence, won with Tankian as a close second. The fluffy things infuriated many. Fishing contest: Kinron was the overall winner, after both Mabelle and Kinron had tied the initial competition. GM Crystal would like to extend special thanks to Bechoil and Johan for tracking down the ferocious Caerian Crocodile and training him, Cassia for helping her with the sheep and to Death for filling in when she was unavailable.. and overall to the players for making it soooo much fun.

Sometime this weekend we will be celebrating valentines day, this will be a unofficial celebration shard history wise as it is based from roman history. There will be fun and games, more details will be announced on the forum shortly. May I also take this opportunity to thank all those voting regularly, we have held steadily at position 5 for a while now. Two week's ago we had a planned reboot for the server to facilitate some new software's installation. It had a uptime of 2 month's prior to that which we expect to far exceed in the future. *EDIT* More news on the valentines festival at this link: Forum - Cupid's Thread While your there, feel free to make a account and post if you haven't already.

Happy Christmas to all players and staff on Sorcerors Quest. As I read the news over the last year I shudder in recollection at the 2 main issues we've faced. 1. Unreliable ISP. Fixed, finally. For almost a month now we have been hosted in a DataCentre with a 1MBbp fibre link on a brand new server with more CPU and RAM than we will need for years. Barring backbone internet problems we should be online for more than that mythical 99% uptime. At last! 2. POL097. Even though POL097 has not been officially released, we successfully migrated our shard from 095 to 097. It took a couple of attempts, but now the scripts are as stable as a rock. This is the foundation for a lot more changes in the coming months. PLANS No shard should be without a plan. Ours is to make full use of POL097 and migrate across to the v5 client and expand our maps. V5 Client. This is the fastest client since v2 that came with UORenaissance. That's a long time ago. We have chosen client version 5.0.9.1 because it is superior in every way to the v4 client in terms of speed and features and because we need a single client. Right now we support v2 and v4 clients. That causes problems because we cannot write any features without making them compatible with v2. Because I live around the world from the shard, I can tell you that tests prove that the v5 client will work for us. Introducing the v5 client as a unified client across SQ is the single biggest change we will do. It's an enormous task because we are taking the opportunity to cleanout a lot of old 'verdata' rubbish and have a new integrated set of artwork. New Maps. Ever since we started with Sorcerors Quest we have had the same maps. They get updated sometimes, but they are recognizably the same as when we started six years ago. A while ago now we switched to being Ancient Ireland and are now working on a whole new set of maps to support our history. New Starter Island After we all switch to the v5 client we will introduce our first new map - it's actually the Isle of Man off the west coast of England but stil close enough to Ireland to share some history. This will be our new starter island. Although we will be taking topographical features from the Isle of Man, our Isle of Mann will still feature our township of Vale. Because we are a roleplaying shard we will be planning how to get players to migrate from the current Vale to the new Vale. Expect that in the new year.
